Great Falls Voyagers News Release

Grand Junction, CO-The Voyagers scored five unearned runs in a difference-making third inning Wednesday night that helped defeat the Grand Junction Rockies 6-3 at Suplizio Field.

Great Falls (21-17) won the series 2-to-1 and now has a 4-3 record on its longest road trip of the season. The Voyagers ended their season series against Grand Junction with a 5-2 mark. The Rockies (16-22) finished 4-10 against Pioneer League North Division teams.

The Voyagers took advantage of a three-base throwing error by the pitcher to spark their third-inning rally. With one out, Frank Califano tapped a come-backer in front of the mound. It was fielded cleanly but Riley Pint's throw to first was wide of the bag and rolled up the side track allowing Califano to move all the way to third. Califano scored the game's first run on a wild pitch. With two outs in the inning, Jameson Fisher was hit by a pitch. Brady Conlan kept the line moving with a base hit to right. Corey Zangari then walked to load the bases. Casey Schroeder came through with a two-run scoring single to right. Jake Jarvis made it 5-0 with a two-out, two-run double into the left field corner.

Grand Junction closed the gap in the fourth. Jose Gomez singled to center leading off the inning. A two-out, two-run home run high and deep to left by Hunter Melton cut the lead to three. It was Melton's second dinger of the season. Four straight scoreless innings followed. Each side plated a single run in the ninth to end the night.

On the mound, Voyagers all-star pitcher Aron McRee posted his fifth consecutive quality start for the win. McRee (4-0) lasted seven innings and allowed two earned runs on just three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Riley Pint suffered the loss for the Rockies. Pint (0-4) worked five innings and gave up five unearned runs on seven hits with one strikeout and one walk.

Great Falls outhit Grand Junction 12-to-4. Casey Schroeder went 3-for-4 with two singles, a double, and two RBIs. Mitch Roman, Jameson Fisher, and Jake Jarvis all had two hit games. Jarvis also had two RBIs. For the Rockies, Hunter Melton homered and had two RBIs with two runs scored.

After an off-day Thursday, the ten-game road trip for Great Falls concludes with a three-game set at Billings Friday through Sunday. The Voyagers return home following the all-star break August 4th against Idaho Falls. For ticket and promotional information, visit www.gfvoyagers.com or call 406-452-5311.
