Daytona Tortugas News Release

Dunedin, FL - The Daytona Tortugas offense exploded for six runs in the third inning of their 8-2 win against the Dunedin Blue Jays Saturday night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. The Tortugas homered three times in a game for the first time this season.

Daytona wasted no time, plating two runs in the first on Taylor Sparks' second homer of the season. Blake Trahan was on base, after beginning the game with a walk, extending his on-base streak to 13 games.

In the third, Daytona erupted for a season-high six runs, sending 11 men to the plate. Sparks started the inning with a double, followed by Aristides Aquino's sixth home run of the season, doubling the Tortuga advantage. Rachal followed suit with his fourth blast of the year, as Daytona went back-to-back for the first time this season.

The marathon inning continued when Chadwick Tromp scored on a Michael De La Cruz error at home, dropping the throw on a force out, to extend the lead to 6-0. Trahan and Blake Butler capped off the six-run scoring barrage with an RBI walk and sacrifice fly respectively, extending the lead to 8-0 by innings end.

Daytona's starter LHP Seth Varner (2-0) threw five innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out five to pick up his second win as a starter. The Tortugas roughed up Dunedin's starter LHP Ryan Borucki (1-4), tagging him for eight runs on seven hits in just two-plus innings of work.

Four different Tortugas had multi-hit efforts at the plate and five different Tortugas drove in a run, with Aquino pacing the way with two.

Daytona looks to split the series Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM. RHP Tejay Antone (2-2. 3.67 ERA) will get the start for the Tortugas against RHP Kyle Westwood (0-3, 7.89 ERA). Coverage will begin with the Chili's pre-game show beginning at 12:50 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.
