New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Austin Bibens-Dirkx pitched seven strong innings and Ryan Schimpf and Kevin Pillar each homered to power the Fisher Cats (8-8) to a 5-2 win over the Binghamton Mets (8-7). The win evens the series up at one win each as the team's head into All-You-Can-Eat Day on Saturday afternoon.
Schimpf got the Fisher Cats out to a good start by smacking his fourth home run in the bottom of the first inning. It was Schimpf's tenth home run in just 93 at-bats at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
A pair of runs in the second pushed the lead to 3-1 before Pillar stole the spotlight in the third. He led off the frame with a long fly ball off the center field wall. The ricochet bounced by Binghamton center fielder Alonzo Harris, and Pillar raced all the way home for an inside-the-park home run. It was only the fourth time a Fisher Cat scored the unorthodox home run, the first since Eric Thames pulled off the feat on May 28, 2010.
From there, leading 4-1, Bibens-Dirkx went into cruise control. He pitched seven total innings, allowing two runs on 6 hits. He struck out five and walked one to become the second Fisher Cat to earn two victories this season.
New Hampshire scored its final run in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk by Clint Robinson. In five games against the Mets, Robinson has seven hits, 3 walks, and a run batted in.
The teams now meet up on Saturday afternoon for All-You-Can-Eat Day presented by Rock 101 and Greg & The Morning Buzz. First pitch is at 1:35 p.m. Tickets are available by visiting www.nhfishercats.com, calling 603-641-2005, or stopping by the Fisher Cats Ticket Office at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
The pitching match-up for the contest features RHP Marcus Walden (0-2, 5.27) against Binghamton RHP Rafael Montero (2-0, 2.16). Fans can listen to the game beginning at 1:15 p.m. with Tom Gauthier and Charlie Sherman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
