Beloit Streich's First in Series with Peroia

June 20, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release

BELOIT, WI - Seth Streich threw seven overpowering innings of shutout ball as the Beloit Snappers earned a 5-1 victory over the Peoria Chiefs with a crowd of 821 on hand at Pohlman Field in Midwest League action on Thursday evening.

The Snappers begin the second half the right way and are 1-0 and 44-27 overall. The Chiefs are 0-1 in the second half and 38-30 in 2013.

Over the course of seven fantastic innings, Streich (7-4) baffled the Peoria lineup. He scattered four singles and one walk while striking out six. The Chiefs were only able to get two runners past first base against him and one was the result of an error.

Beloit's power stroke gave Streich the necessary runs for the win. Christopher Bostick (3-4, HR, 4 RBIs, run) struck the first blow off Cory Jones (2-1), rocketing a solo shot to center, his tenth in 2013. John Wooten hit his tenth homer of the year in fifth, which was good for another run. The Snappers' third run scored on a fielder's choice in the seventh.

Out of the bullpen came Tyler Vail in the eighth, looking to protect the lead. While the Chiefs did get on the board when a wild pitch allowed Breyvic Valera to scamper home in the eighth, Vail held them there. After a Bostick triple tacked on a pair, Vail put up a zero in the final frame to pick up his first save in professional baseball.

On Friday night, the second game of the series is scheduled to take place with the first pitch being thrown at 7:00pm. Beloit is set to start RHP Vince Voiro (3-2, 2.79 ERA) against LHP Kyle Helisek (5-2, 3.54 ERA).
