Brampton Beast News Release

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, is proud to announce two-time CIS Defenseman of the Year Jordan Murray will be joining the Beast after being assigned to Brampton by the Belleville Senators on Wednesday.

Murray, 24, is playing his first full season of professional hockey after signing with the Binghamton Senators late last season after finishing his decorated collegiate career.

The six-foot-one defender spent four years playing at the University of New Brunswick where Murray helped lead his team win back-to-back University Cup championships in 2015-16/2016-17 as the best team in Canadian university hockey.

Murray collected many other accolades while with the Varsity Reds. He was a three-time All-Canadian defenseman and won CIS Defenseman of the Year twice (2015-16/2016-17). The Moncton, New Brunswick, native tallied 107 points through 107 games with UNB, including 40 points in 30 games in his senior year.

The young defenseman played in five games for Binghamton last year scoring a goal and adding an assist, while also playing three more games this season before being reassigned to Brampton.

The former Varsity Red got his first taste of professional hockey prior to singing with Binghamton. Murray was invited to attend the Toronto Maple Leafs rookie development camp in the summer of 2016 where he battled against the likes of Auston Matthews, Jeremy Bracco, and Mitch Marner.

Murray parlayed what he learned at Leafs camp into a stellar 2016-17 season for the University of New Brunswick, which saw him become the CIS defenseman of the year, along with a national championship.

Prior to going to university, the offensively minded defenseman played three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League split between the Acadie Bathurst Titan and the Drummondville Voltiguers. Murray netted 95 points in 186 games, including 56 points in his third year in the league.

Murray's recorded one assist in three games with Belleville this season and will make his ECHL debut this weekend against the Wheeling Nailers.
