Burlington Bees News Release

Peoria, IL (June 13, 2007) - Jeff Bianchi had three hits including a two-run double that capped a four-run fourth to lead the Burlington Bees (28-37) to a 6-3 win over the Peoria Chiefs (30-35) at O'Brien Field tonight. The Bees lead this series 3-0 and have won five in a row against the Chiefs overall this year.

The Chiefs scored first in the bottom of the first inning. Matt Camp reached on an infield single and went to third on a one-out single by Josh Lansford. With two outs, Lansford left first early and got into a rundown. Camp then timed his break for home perfectly and stole home ahead of the relay.

The Bees answered quickly in the top of the second inning when Michael Thompson launched a solo home run to left off of Chiefs' starter Jacob Renshaw. It was Thompson's 13th home run of the season, moving him into second place in the Midwest League. The Bees took the lead in the top of the third. With one out, Kurt Mertins walked and went to third on a base hit by Bianchi. Brady Everett hit a fly ball to shallow right. Mertins tagged at third, started for the plate, and stopped as Yusuf Carter threw a strike to the plate. The Chiefs had Mertins in a pickle until catcher Wellington Castillo threw the ball away down the left field line for an error that allowed Mertins to come in and score to give the Bees a 2-1 lead.

The Bees then broke the game open in the fourth. With one out, Matt Morizio and Jase Turner singled and moved to second and third on a groundout by Alvi Morel. Derrick Robinson then hit a chopper in the hole between first and second. Ryne Malone ranged far to get to the ball, but never fielded it cleanly, and then dropped it into foul territory. Robinson was credited with an infield single and one RBI as Morizio scored and Malone was charged with an error as Turner raced in from second as well for a 4-1 Bees' lead. Mertins followed with a bouncing ball in the hole on the left side that went for an infield single as Jonathon Mota made a diving stop to keep the ball on the infield. Bianchi drove in two more by ripping a ball just inside the bag at third and down into the left field corner for a double that extended the lead to 6-1. Renshaw (5-4) was done after four innings and got his second straight loss. Brad Clipp pitched 2.1 innings and Matt Maradeo 2.2 innings in relief to finish the game without allowing any more runs.

Bees' starter Matt Campbell ran up his pitch count and had to come out after allowing three runs on six hits in 4.1 innings. Aaron Hartsock took over in the fifth with runners on the corners and one out, but got Lansford to ground into a double play to end the inning. Hartsock (3-2) would work through three innings and allowed just one hit for the win. Chris Hayes took over the eighth with a man at first and one out. He picked off Camp and retired all four batters he faced to finish the game for his third save, tying Tyler Chambliss for the team lead.

The Bees and Chiefs complete this series tomorrow night at 6:30 at O'Brien Field. RH Harold Mozingo (5-5, 3.58) will start for the Bees against RH Robert Hernandez (2-1, 3.38) for the Chiefs. The game will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show starting at 6:10.
