Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (June 14, 2007) - The Kansas City Royals have given the Burlington Bees roster an extreme makeover this week. After the promotion of Chris McConnell yesterday, the Royals have now also promoted IF Jeremy Jirschele to the Wilmington Blue Rocks in the Carolina League and re-assigned outfielders O.D. Gonzalez and Alvi Morel to short-season Idaho Falls in the Pioneer League. Joining the Bees today is OF Felix Peralta from Wilmington and OF Jamar Walton from extended spring training. Walton was recently signed as a minor league free agent after being released by the Florida Marlins. LHP Brent Fisher, who has been on the disabled list since May 24th, has left the team to continue his rehab at the Royals facility in Surprise, Arizona.

Jirschele is batting .250 with two home runs and seven RBI in 23 games this year while seeing time at third, second, and first base and also left and right field. Gonzalez is batting .187 with two home runs and eleven RBI in 50 games. Morel leaves with a .213 average, two home runs and ten RBI in 41 games.

Peralta played in 13 games with the Bees at the end of last season after spending most of his season in the Arizona Rookie League. He started the year in extended spring training and jumped to Wilmington in late April. In 18 games with the Blue Rocks this year, he was batting .196 (11-56) with two RBI.

Walton has not appeared in a game yet this season. Last year in the Marlins organization, he was limited to just six games and eight at-bats because of a broken hamate bone. The Marlins drafted Walton in the fourth round of the 2004 draft out of Greensville County High School in Virginia. He played in 64 games with Jamestown in the New York-Penn League in 2005 and hit .225 with two home runs and 22 RBI.
