Burlington Bees News Release
(Burlington-IA) - The Burlington Bees (6-10) were handed their fourth loss in a row on Saturday night, losing to the Beloit Snappers (10-7), 6-5 at Community Field in Burlington.
Justin Higley started what would be a big inning for the Beloit Snappers by lining a triple to the wall in center field, to start the ball game. The next batter, Nick Collins, roped a single to right, scoring Higley, giving the Snappers a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Ryan Howell drove in a pair with a double, upping the lead to 3-0. The inning was capped off when Trent Gilbert singled in Howell, making the score 4-0.
Zach Welz started his big night in the bottom of the first inning, extending his hitting streak to seven games with a bunt single. Hutton Moyer ripped a double to right but Welz was thrown out at the plate. Ranyelmy Alberto put the Bees on the board with a single, scoring Moyer, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
After Beloit scored another run in the top of the second inning, the Bees would get that run back in the third thanks to a solo home run from Hutton Moyer, his first of the season, making the score 5-2. The Bees added two more runs in the fourth inning thanks to a Michael Pierson sacrifice fly and a Moyer single, cutting Beloit's lead to 5-4.
Beloit went on to get an important insurance run in the sixth inning when Nick Collins drove in his second run of the game by drawing a bases loaded walk, upping the lead to 6-4. The Bees added their fifth run in the eighth inning, scoring a Beloit error. The Bees put the winning run on base in the ninth but couldn't not scratch across a run, losing 6-5.
Angel Duno (1-1) worked 4.1 innings allowing an unearned run for the win while Bees starter Joe Gatto (0-3) was charged with the loss. Corey Miller (1) picked up the save for Beloit. The series concludes tomorrow when Jaime Barria makes the start for the Bees against Kyle Friedrichs for Beloit at 2:00 pm at Community Field.
