Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (April 29, 2008) - The Burlington Bees played their longest game of the season Tuesday at Community Field falling to Cedar Rapids 7-5 in 14 innings. The Bees were down 5-0 and clawed their way back scoring five runs between the sixth and eighth innings but allowed two runs in the 14th to lose the game.

Matt Mitchell got the start for the Bees and was not as sharp as he has been in previous outings. Mitchell went 4.2 innings allowing five runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks. The Kernels scored three runs in the second, one in the third and one in the fifth before Mitchell was removed.

Joe Augustine, who alternates starts with Mitchell, came out of the bullpen and pitched an absolute gem. He ended up going six innings allowing no runs on two hits with a season-high ten strikeouts and just two walks. His six innings of scoreless baseball allowed the Bees to get back into the ballgame.

The Bees slowly clawed their way back to even scoring one run in the sixth and two in each of the seventh and eighth innings. The Bees could not get any more runs across the rest of the night despite having a runner on in scoring position four separate times. Henry Arias allowed two runs in the top of the 14th inning. Arias pitched 3.1 innings allowing two runs on four hits and took the loss to move to 2-1 on the season.

Jamar Walton had a nice night at the plate for the Bees as he went 3-6 with an RBI. Zach Evangelho also had three hits with an RBI and a run scored. Adrian Ortiz picked up a hit to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

The Bees will look to salvage one game of the three-game series on Wednesday night at Community Field. Alex Caldera gets the start for the Bees.
