Bees Lose Fourth Straight One Run Game

The Burlington Bees (65-71) lost their fourth consecutive one run game, losing to the Clinton LumberKings (84-52), 5-4, on Thursday night at Ashford University Field.

Both starting pitchers worked two scoreless innings before the Bees opened the scoring in the top of the third inning. Brendon Sanger started the inning with a walk and attempted to steal second with one out but was caught stealing for out number two. Brennon Lund then ripped a double to right and scored when Jahmai Jones singled back up the middle, giving the Bees a 1-0 lead.

With one out in the bottom of the third inning, Chris Mariscal doubled. Dalton Kelly then tied the game by pulling a two out double to right, scoring Mariscal. Michael Barash untied the game in the fifth, smacking a solo home run to left field, giving the Bees a 2-1 lead.

Clinton took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. After a one out walk, issued to Chris Mariscal, Ricky Eusebio reached on a fielder's choice and an error. The LumberKings tied the game when Mariscal crossed the plate on another Bees' error. A double steal gave the LumberKings the lead. Alex Jackson added another with a double to left, scoring Kelly, making the score 4-2.

The LumberKings added a huge run in the eighth on a double from Arturo Nieto scoring Connor Hale, extending the Clinton lead to 5-2.

Connor Justus reached to start the ninth on a hit by pitch. Alexi Rivera singled and then both runners advanced on a wild pitch. With one out, Michael Barash singled to center, scoring both Justus and Rivera, cutting the deficit to 5-4. Matt Walker (13) struck out the next two batters to end the game.

Reliever Dylan Silva (4-2) earned the win for the LumberKings while Jesus Castillo (3-2) was charged with the loss. The Bees and LumberKings finish the series on Thursday night at 6:30. Austin Robichuax makes the start for the Bees against Nick Neidert for Clinton.
