Bees Lose By Ten in Series Finale with Dragons

Burlington, IA (May 25, 2009) - The Burlington Bees wrapped up a ten-game home stand and a three-game series Monday afternoon by losing to Dayton 12-2. With the loss, the Dragons took two out of three from the Bees and the Bees finished the home stand with a 4-6 record.

Dayton got on the board in the top of the first inning scoring two runs. Both runs scored on a Byron Wiley two-run homerun. The game stayed 2-0 until the fourth inning when the Dragons scored nine runs in a two-inning span. Dayton scored four runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth inning. During those two innings, the Bees committed three errors.

The Bees did score two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Antonio Jimenez led the inning off with a single and then moved to second o a Patrick Norris single. A ground-out moved both runners up a base. Eric Hosmer then singled to score both Jimenez and Norris. Dayton did add one final run in the top of the ninth off a Cody Puckett solo homerun.

Tim Melville got the start for the Bees. He took the loss to move to 1-1. In four innings, he allowed six runs, four of which were earned, on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Carson Bryant allowed five runs, three of which were earned, in one inning. Derrick Saito was the only Burlington pitcher not to allow a run. He pitched three innings and gave up just one hit with five strikeouts. Barry Bowden pitched the ninth allowing one run.

The Bees had seven hits in the game. Salvador Perez was the only Bee with more than one hit as he went 2-4. The Bees had four errors, which tied a season high, for the second time in the last three days.

The Bees open a six-game road trip on Tuesday as they travel to Lansing for three games. Sam Runion is the scheduled starter. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05. The game can be heard on News-Radio 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees will return home to Community Field on June 1st to open a series with Quad Cities.
