Bees Lose By One to Peoria

Peoria, IL (August 13, 2009) - The Burlington Bees had two leads Thursday night but could not hold on losing 6-5 to Peoria. Nick Francis had two hits and three RBI in the losing effort for the Bees. The Bees will now need to win Friday night to split the four-game series with Peoria.

The Bees scored the first two runs of the ballgame in the top of the first inning. With two outs, David Wood walked and then Nick Francis hit his 13th homerun of the season to give the Bees a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, Peoria hit two homeruns and took a 3-2 lead.

The Bees got the lead back scoring two runs in the second inning. With one out, Juan Graterol singled and moved to third on a Jason Morales double. Yeldrys Molina then doubled to score Graterol and move Morales to third. Morales then scored on a Fernando Garcia RBI ground-out to give the Bees a 4-3 lead. Peoria tied the ballgame scoring one run in the third inning and then took the lead scoring another run in the fourth. Peoria added an insurance run via Kyle Burke's second homerun of the day in the seventh inning.

The Bees got back within one run scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Adrian Ortiz led the inning off by reaching on a strikeout wild pitch. Ortiz stole second and moved to third on a ground-out. Ortiz then scored on a Francis RBI ground-out and the Bees trailed by just one 6-5. The Bees got the potential tying run on base in the ninth but could not get another run across.

Tim Melville got the start for the Bees. He pitched 3.1 innings allowing five runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks. He took the loss and is now 4-7. Cole White pitched 3.2 innings allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk. James Thompson pitched one no-hit inning.

The Bees were outhit 10-9. Francis led the way going 2-4 with a run and three RBI. Graterol also had two hits in the game.

The Bees conclude the four-game series at Peoria on Friday night. Tony Pena Jr. is the scheduled starter for the Bees and is expected to pitch one inning before Mike Lehmann comes into the ballgame. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 and the game can be heard on News-Radio 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees will return to Community Field for a four-game series beginning on Saturday night.
