DES MOINES - In the final game of the series, the Iowa Cubs (43-56) fell to the Salt Lake Bees (46-50) 5-4, despite a potential late-inning comeback and out hitting their opposition 12-10, Thursday at Principal Park.
Salt Lake got its bats going in the top of the second with Nick Buss starting it off with a double to left-center. Brendan Ryan brought in the first runs of the game with a single after Sherman Johnson reached on a walk to give the Bees an early 2-0 lead.

The Bees continued their offensive production in the fourth with Buss getting his second hit in as many at bats and Ryan bringing him in on a sacrifice fly.
Righty Armando Rivero got the first call from the bullpen for the I-Cubs. He gave Iowa two strong innings of work, allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk, while striking out four.

Logan Watkins got his second hit of the day to move Candelario to third and Juan Perez hit a single of his own to give Iowa its first run. Munenori Kawasaki hit a shot up the middle and John Andreoli drew his 61st walk of the season with bases loaded to bring in Perez.
Sherman Johnson reached base for the third time on a wild throw from Perez that allowed Quintin Berry to bring him in on a double to deep left-center to give Salt Lake the 4-2 lead in the sixth. The visitors tacked on one more run on three hits in the top half of the eighth to extend their lead to three.
In the bottom of the eighth, Tim Federowicz started the inning with a single up the middle. Candelario followed with a double to deep left-center and then Logan Watkins tabbed his third hit with an infield single to bring in Federowicz. Perez followed with a sacrifice fly to deep center to bring in Candelario to pull Iowa within a run once again.
With Iowa down to its last outs, Kawasaki led off the ninth with a walk to begin the potential comeback. Andreoli moved him over with a sacrifice bunt and Kristopher Negrî"n drew a walk to put the winning run on first. The Bees called on the bullpen and Mike Morin came in and retired both batters he faced to solidify the win for Salt Lake.
