Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (August 29, 2007) - The Burlington Bees outfield has been devastated by injuries. Last week, LF Joe Dickerson separated his right shoulder diving back into first on a pickoff play at Cedar Rapids and last night RF Jamar Walton injured his right shoulder while crashing into the right field wall trying to chase down a fly ball. The Kansas City Royals have placed both on the disabled list and neither will play again this season. Fortunately, RF Felix Peralta's hamstring injury has healed and he has been activated from the disabled list. He has been out since August 14th. To add more depth, OF Vinny Pennell and IF/OF Ryan Angel will join the Bees today from the Arizona Rookie League.

Dickerson finishes the year with a .289 batting average, thee home runs, and 43 RBI over 115 games. His average leads the team and is currently tied for eighth in the Midwest League. Dickerson also collected 23 doubles and 26 steals on the year and had a 17-game hitting streak from July 4th-24th and hit in a league-best 22 straight road games from June 10th-July 24th. Dickerson also set a franchise record by reaching base safely in 35 straight games from June 23rd-August 2nd. The Kansas City Royals named Dickerson the Bees Player of the Year.

Walton joined the Bees on June 14th after getting released by the Florida Marlins organization and signing as a free agent with the Royals. Walton batted .278 with three home runs and 18 RBI in 54 games and had a team and league-best 19-game hitting streak from July 3rd-30th. It is the second-longest streak in franchise history.

Peralta is batting .245 with two home runs and 10 RBI in 32 games since joining the Bees from high-A Wilmington on June 14th.

The Royals signed both Pennell and Angel as non-drafted free agents this June. Pennell hails from Spencer, MA and played collegiately at Franklin Pierce College. He hit .342 with a home run, 40 RBI, and 27 stolen bases this past season for the Ravens and was named 1st-Team All Northeast-10 Conference while helping his team to the D-II World Series and setting the school record for hits in a career. In 47 games in Arizona, he was batting .279 with 20 RBI and a team-high 14 stolen bases in 47 games. Angel hails from Rocklin, CA and played his college ball at San Jose State University. He hit .321 with a team-high eight home runs and 46 RBI for the Spartans this past year. He leaves SJSU as the all-time leader in at-bats and doubles while finishing second in hits and games. He was 2nd-Team All-WAC Conference in 2006 and was voted by his teammates as the team's MVP and this past year was given the school's "Distinguished Career" award from the coaching staff while earning 2007 All WAC Tournament honors. He was batting .260 with three home runs and 25 RBI in 47 games in Arizona playing primarily at second base, but played some outfield and was an outfielder his final year at SJSU while playing six different positions in his college career.

Pennell and Angel should arrive and be in uniform for tonight's home game against the Swing of the Quad Cities. Tonight is Fan Appreciation Night for the Bees' final home game of the season. Game time is 7:00 and the gates open at six. The game will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show starting at 6:40.
