Bees Fall to Lugnuts, 5-2

Lansing, MI - The Burlington Bees (9-15) lost their third straight game, losing game one of a three-game series to the Lansing Lugnuts (15-11), 5-2, on Friday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Lansing entered play leading the Midwest League with a .280 team batting average. The Lugnuts took the lead first, scoring a run in the first inning. After J.B. Woodman reached on a fielder's choice, Bo Bichette lined a pitch to right center for a triple, scoring Woodman, giving the Lugnuts a 1-0 lead.

Edward Olivares reached on an error with one out in the fifth. After a Joshua Palacios walk, J.B. Woodman lifted a ball over the head of left fielder Brennon Lund for a double, scoring both Olivares and Palacios, extending the Lugnuts lead to 3-0.

The Bees got on the board in the sixth inning. Lund led off the inning with a walk and then scored when Jahmai Jones doubled down the left field line, cutting the deficit to 3-1. With one out, Jones advanced to third on a foul out and then scored on an errant throw, making it a one-run game at 3-2.

Lansing added runs in the sixth in the eighth to push their lead back up to 5-2, giving the Bees their third consecutive loss. Lugnuts' starter Justin Maese (3-2) earned the win while Joe Gatto (2-2) was charged with the loss and Jackson McClelland (6) picked up the save. The Bees and the Lugnuts will continue the series on Saturday night at 6:05 pm CST. Erik Manoah makes the start for the Bees against Patrick Murphy for the Lugnuts.
