Bees Drop Third In a Row to Peoria

Peoria, IL (June 20, 2009) - The Burlington Bees lost for the third day in a row at Peoria falling 5-3. With the loss, the Bees have lost the first three games of the four-game series with Peoria. The two teams will wrap up the first half Sunday afternoon.

Peoria opened the scoring by putting up one run in the top of the third inning. The Bees then answered in the top of the fourth inning. Nick Francis led the inning off with his ninth homerun of the season to tie the game. Peoria then went on to score four unanswered runs to take a 5-1 lead.

The Bees got back within two runs scoring two runs in the top of the eighth inning. Fernando Garcia walked to lead off the inning and then was replaced on the bases by Jarrod Dyson, who reached on a Fielder's Choice. Nick Van Stratten then tripled to score Dyson. Van Stratten then scored on a wild pitch and the Bees trailed 5-3.

Tim Melville got the start for the Bees. In 4.2 innings, he allowed four runs, one of which was earned, on four hits with one strikeout and two walks. Melville took the loss to move to move to 1-4 on the season. Justin Garcia pitched the final 3.1 innings allowing one run on three hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

The Bees outhit Peoria 9-7. Despite losing the first three games of the series, the Bees have outhit the Chiefs in all three games. Francis and Van Stratten led the way as they each went 2-4 with a run and an RBI. Sean McCauley also had two hits in the game.

The Bees conclude the series and the first half at Peoria Sunday afternoon. Sam Runion is the scheduled starter. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00. You can hear the game on News-Radio 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com.
