Burlington, IA- The Burlington Bees could not quiet the bats of the Quad Cities River Bandits, losing 12-2 in game two of the series at Community Field.
Quad Cities picked up from where they left off on Monday, getting a run in the top of the first inning. With two outs, Alex De Goti singled and then came home to score when Jake Rogers tripled to right, putting the River Bandits on top 1-0. The River Bandits added to their lead in the second. Rodrigo Ayarza and Taylor Jones picked up one out singles before Marcos Almonte smacked a three-run homer to right, extending the lead to 4-0. The River Bandits added two more in the inning on a Daz Cameron home run and a Rogers double and the Bees trailed 6-0.
The Bees found some offense in the bottom of the second inning. Jordan Zimmerman started the frame with a solo home run to left, his second of the year. Troy Montgomery made it a two-run inning by crushing his first home run of the season, cutting the deficit to 6-2.
Quad Cities wasn't done, adding three more runs in the third and single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh as the Bees dropped their second straight, losing 12-2.
River Bandits' starter Hector Perez (1-1) earned the win while Bees' starter Andrew Vinson (1-1) was charged with the loss. Travis Herrin struck out nine batters in five innings of relief. The Bees and the River Bandits will finish the series on Wednesday morning at 11:30. Sam Pastrone makes the start for the Bees against Ryan Hartman for Quad Cities.
