New Britain Bees News Release

(Waldorf, MD.) Playing their fourth doubleheader of the season, the New Britain Bees dropped both games today at Regency Furniture Stadium to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs by scores of 5-4 and 8-0.

PITCHERS OF RECORD

Game 1- W: Cody Eppley (2-0)| L: Craig Stem (1-3)

Game 2- W: Scott Snodgress (1-2) | L: Colin Moberly (0-2)

Game one featured a tough loss for the Bees after a dramatic comeback. Down 3-1 in the top half of the seventh (which was the final inning with both ends of the doubleheader shortened to seven innings), the Bees mounted a rally against former Ranger and Yankee reliever Cody Eppely. With two on and two out, Brandon Chaves tied the game on a single, bringing home Jon Jones and Anthony Hewitt. After moving to second on the throw home, Chaves scored with the go-ahead run when Jovan Rosa singled him in.

However, the Bees were unable to hold the lead in the last half of the seventh. With closer Craig Stem on the mound, Southern Maryland loaded the bases with one out (two singles and an intentional walk). Down in the count 1-2, cleanup hitter Jamar Walton singled to right field, bringing home the winning runs for the Blue Crabs.

The second game was not as close of a contest as the first. Knuckleballer Colin Moberly struggled in his first start of the season, allowing four earned runs in just two innings of work. The Bees bullpen were, for the most part, unable to contain the Blue Crabs' offense either, with three relievers combining to allow four more runs over the final four innings.

Offensively, the Bees were unable to muster much against Blue Crabs' starter Scott Snodgress. The six-year pro struck out six in six innings of work. It was only the second time this season the Bees were shut out (May 3 vs. Sugar Land).

The two teams will wrap up their first ever series tomorrow night from Regency Furniture Stadium at 7:05 PM. The Bees will send left-hander Josh Outman to the mound, while the Blue Crabs will counter with righty Shaun Garceau.
