Bees Beat Captains, 7-2

April 29, 2012 - Midwest League (MWL1) - Burlington Bees News Release

EASTLAKE, Ohio (4/29/12) - The Burlington Bees (11-12) looked tired in the loss to the Lake County Captains (8-16) Saturday, but responded with a 7-2 victory in game two. After getting shutout in the first game, the Bees scored a bunch out of the gate.

Sean Jamieson hit a grounder past third base with one out in the top of the first to start a string of production at the plate with one out. B.A. Vollmuth followed Jamieson with a walk and both advanced into scoring position on an error by the second baseman following a pickoff attempt. Dusty Robinson made the most of his RBI op- portunity and crushed a double to centerfield to score two runs. Douglas Landaeta smacked a double to right- field that drove in Robinson. Landaeta eventually scored when Chih-Fang Pan hit a bloop-single into no-man's land just past the mound.

Raul Alcantara took the hill looking for his first win on the year and coming off a rough start only five days ago. Alcantara gave up leadoff homerun to Luigi Rodriguez on his third pitch of the bottom of the first. The Indians' top prospect, Francisco Lindor slapped a single into leftfield after the homer and it looked like Alcantara was going to struggle once again.

Instead the 19-year-old Dominican right-hander matured quickly and responded to the early trouble well. He induced two groundball outs and struck out the last batter to leave Lindor stranded at third. Alcantara's slider looked great and the youngster spotted his fastball well over the next four innings. In fact, Alcantara only face two batters over the minimum after the first inning.

Alcantara pitched five innings and allowed three hits, one earned run, and struck out five Lake County batters. Max Perlman pitched three innings after Alcantara and looked effective as well. The tall right-hander tossed three innings and gave up only one earned run. Doolittle pitched a perfect ninth inning to end the game.

Most importantly, the Bees kept the pressure on the Captains by scoring again in the fourth and the seventh. The defense also looked perfect and ended the game on a nice running grab by leftfielder Royce Consigli.

The Bees play the rubber match of the three game series with the Lake County Captains on Sunday afternoon. For information on Bees baseball, call (319) 754-5705 or visit www.gobees.com.
