Bees Avoid Sweep; Sting Dodgers with 6-4 Loss

Oklahoma City - The Salt Lake Bees avoided a sweep, winning their series finale against the Oklahoma City Dodgers, 6-4, Sunday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Dodgers scored first, and then notched three late runs in the eighth inning, but the Bees took and held the lead for good with a four-run third inning in front of a crowd of 6,240.

Oklahoma City (24-17) won the first three games of the series, but were unable to complete their first sweep of the Bees since last doing so in 2009.

Sunday wrapped up a stretch of eight straight home games for the Dodgers, who quickly got on the scoreboard in the second inning.

Dodgers left fielder Micah Johnson hit a solo home run onto the Budweiser Deck in left field for a 1-0 Dodgers lead. The homer was his second of the season.

The Bees (23-18) took a 4-1 lead in the top of the third inning. Anthony Bemboom and Ryan Jackson opened the inning with back-to-back singles before Rey Navarro connected on a two-run triple to center field to give Salt Lake the lead.

Ji-Man Choi followed with a walk and stole second base to put runners at second and third base for Jefry Marte, who hit a RBI groundout to score Navarro. A RBI single by Nick Buss brought home Choi for a three-run Bees advantage.

The Bees loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the fifth inning for Quintin Berry, who drew a bases-loaded walk to push the Bees ahead, 5-1.

Salt Lake added a sixth run on a RBI single from Ryan Jackson in the eighth inning for a five-run lead.

Dodgers center fielder Rico Noel led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a triple, then scored on a RBI single by catcher Austin Barnes to cut the Bees' lead to 6-2.

Barnes was picked off at first base before Alex Hassan drew a walk. Second baseman Rob Segedin came up to bat next and drilled a two-run homer down the left field line to cut the Salt Lake lead to 6-4.

Salt Lake reliever David Carpenter (1-1) got the win for the Bees, pitching a scoreless fourth inning. Javy Guerra earned his fifth save of the season.

Dodgers starting pitcher Carlos Frias (0-1) was charged with the loss in his first outing of the season with Oklahoma City. He allowed four runs and seven hits. He walked two and had two strikeouts.

The Dodgers next travel to the West Coast to continue their stretch of 16 straight games against Pacific Conference opponents. Oklahoma City opens a four-game series against the Fresno Grizzlies at 8:35 p.m. Central time at Chukchansi Park.
