Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Paul McAnulty was 5-for-5, including a two-run home that was part of an eight-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning that helped the Portland Beavers overcome an eight-run deficit for an 11-10 victory over the Tucson Sidewinders Wednesday night at PGE Park.

Trailing 8-0 after five innings, the Beavers chipped away with three runs in the sixth and overtook the Sidewinders in the seventh when Terrmel Sledge capped the eight-run rally with a two-out, three-run homer off reliever Mike Schultz.

The win snapped the Beavers' six-game losing streak to the Sidewinders, whose season-long winning streak came to an end at 10 games.

McAnulty, who is hitting .394 since returning to the Beavers from San Diego on May 29, became just the seventh Portland batter to register five hits in a game dating back to the Beavers' return to the Pacific Coast League in 2001.

When the dust settled, Jim Brower (1-2) emerged with his first win for the Beavers (33-33), while Schultz (2-1) suffered the loss.

Despite giving up a deep home run to Scott Hairston in the ninth, Jason Anderson survived for his third save.

Hairston was 3-for-4 with two walks and four runs scored to lead the Sidewinders, who ran out to an 8-0 lead with a flurry of offense over the first five innings.

Chris Young was 3-for-5 and led a group of three players with two RBIs for the Sidewinders, who scored eight of their runs with two outs. Alberto Callaspo hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Down by eight runs, the Beavers got an RBI double from Justin Leone and a two-run double down the right field line from Jack Cust.

Young's RBI single in the top of the seventh made it 9-3 before the Beavers sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the inning.

The Beavers and Sidewinders wrap up their series Thursday night at PGE Park. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
