Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - In yet another innovative quest to find the ultimate bobblehead honoree, the Portland Beavers today launched a nationwide search to locate individuals named Bob L. Head to be considered for the team's Esurance "Bob L. Head" bobblehead promotion that will take place at PGE Park on Saturday, Aug. 18.

The Beavers, the Triple-A Pacific Coast League affiliate of the San Diego Padres, have featured a number of creative bobblehead promotions over the years, including "Rodney McCray Bobblefence" in 2006 and a bobble version of hall-of-fame pitcher and former Beaver, Satchel Paige, in 2002. But this season, the team will honor the person most fitting to have his likeness cast for thousands of baseball fans to enjoy - Bob L. Head.

"Baseball teams have honored all sorts of stars over the years, but no one has given Bob L. Head his due," said Jadira Ruiz, director of promotions for the Beavers. "It's time the original gets his day in the sun."

The team is inviting anyone legally named Bob L. Head to apply for the unique honor at www.portlandbeavers.com. Each registrant will be asked to supply a list of basic information and a short essay on why he - more than any other Bob L. Head out there - is most fitting to receive this honor, one of the most coveted in sports-memorabilia circles.

Among the requirements, the winner must be named "Bob" (or Robert, Bobby, Roberto), middle initial, "L" (possibilities include, but not limited to: Luke, Lee, Larry, Lenny, Logan, Luis, Leon, Luther, Leif, Lester), and last name, "Head."

Each registrant must be able to attend the Aug. 18 event, be at least 18 years of age and be able to provide documented proof of his legal name. Deadline for registration is Saturday, March 31. The team is planning to put the final decision up to a vote of the fans on the team's website.

As part of the promotion, the first 2,000 fans in attendance at the Aug. 18 game will receive an official Bob L. Head bobblehead doll as the Beavers take on the Las Vegas 51s. For his part, "Bob" will receive red-carpet treatment before, during and after the game, including an all-expenses-paid vacation in Portland, the chance to throw out the first pitch, media opportunities and all the fame and glory associated with having his own bobblehead.

"It's almost like being the president for one day," said McCray, who was featured on ESPN and several local and national shows as the result of the Beavers' bobblefence promotion last season.
