Beat the Heat with Five More 'RiverDog Days of Summer

July 9, 2010 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, SC -- Get a tan with "Be Your Own Fan!" when the Charleston RiverDogs return from a five-game road trip to take on the Augusta GreenJackets, the Single-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The RiverDogs are set to host the GreenJackets for another five-game series at Riley Park from July 14-18, and the match up should provide plenty of action on the field as both SAL Southern Division rivals look to gain a leg up in the second half standings.

Start bronzing and getting chiseled because we're taking "Be Your Own Fan!" to the next level with "Be Your Own Statue!" on Saturday. With the talk earlier this year of a male Statue of Liberty at Patriot's Point, the RiverDogs are taking the torch with a Mr. Lady Liberty giveaway night featuring the Palmetto State's own Mr. Alvin Greene. With the RiverDogs' day camp running from Wednesday through Friday, Wild Wednesday, Thirsty Thursday, Red Shirt Friday and a big weekend planned, this five-game homestand is guaranteed to make your tail wag!

Wild Wednesday/Bring Your Own Brush

It's always a little rambunctious around Riley Park, but Wednesday we give you reason to really cut loose with $20 All-You-Can-Eat tickets. We're letting the big dogs eat with Mexican Fiesta food this Wild Wednesday.

What kind of fan are you? All those in attendance Wednesday are encouraged put their gameday experience on canvas with Bring Your Own Brush! as fans are invited to paint with local artist Sarah Hickey. We'll whet your appetite for the weekend with another Wild Wednesday. All of Wednesday's promotions are presented by WTMA.

Thirsty Thursday/Disability Awareness Night

"Be Your Own Fan!" and kick back with a cold brew as Budweiser presents another Thirsty Thursday. It's a deal fit for a Major League All-Star with $1 beers and $1.50 mini hot dogs in the Ashley View Pub throughout the game. Take a break from that dog-eat-dog world and get in on our dog-eat-hotdog world with 4,000 of your closest friends at The Joe.

It's also Disability Awareness Night at Riley Park. We're all fans of Marjorie Taylor-Elliot and Lynn Scott for all their support throughout the Charleston community as the ladies are set to receive the EP Maxwell J. Schliefer Distinguished Service Award for their contributions throughout the Lowcountry. It's also AT&T Real Yellow Pages Night at the ballpark. Thursday's game is presented by AT&T, Budweiser, MassMutual, CVS Caremark and Exceptional Parent Magazine.

Force Protection Red Shirt Friday/Piggly Wiggly Post-Game Fireworks/Fritos Family Fun Night/Magician Aaron Radatz

If you're a fan of fireworks and family fun you should be fired up for Friday's game. It's another Force Protection Red Shirt Friday, with all fans who wear a red shirt to the stadium receive $1 off a walk-up ticket price. Those in attendance can be a fan of our service men and women overseas by donating that dollar to military families with loved ones abroad.

The Piggly Wiggly flaming pig head patrols the outfield every Friday night and this night it's no different. Following tonight's game, Piggly Wiggly is going to put a twinkle in your eye with a postgame firework extravaganza.

It's our second Fritos Family Night of the year and we're putting out a Carolina casting call. We're looking for six of our most loudest and proudest "Be Your Own Fans!" to participate in six ballpark activities that night: ceremonial first pitch, PA announcer for half an inning, radio broadcaster for half an inning, play ball kid, drag the field with the grounds crew at the top of the 6th inning and assist Charlie T. RiverDog during the singing of the National Anthem. Fans also get 10 percent off all RiverDogs merchandise when they bring an empty Fritos bag to the park. If the great deals and spectacular fireworks displays aren't enough blow your mind, be sure not to blink because we've got local magician Aaron Radatz roaming the park to entertain the fans throughout Friday's contest. If Aaron correctly predicts the score to Friday's game, all fans will win a free ticket! Be amazed! Be wowed! "Be Your Own Fan!" All of Friday's promotions are presented by Force Protection, Fritos, Piggly Wiggly and 103.5 WEZL FM.

Mr. Lady Liberty/Kia Country of Charleston Saturday at the Ballpark

On Saturday things will look a little Greene at The Joe, and it's not just the outfield grass. Alvin Greene, the Democratic Senator hopeful, recently commented that in an effort to create more jobs, action figures should be created in his likeness. The first 1,000 fans at the ballpark are set to receive the special Mr. Liberty statues that feature Alvin Greene.

It's another Kia Country of Charleston Saturday at the Ballpark. All kids in attendance are encouraged to hang around after the game run with the big dogs -- the RiverDogs that is -- and take a lap around the bases. Saturday's game is presented by Kia Country of Charleston and WTAT Fox.

Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission Family Sunday

Every Sunday Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission gives the RiverDogs' faithful the chance to go from "Be Your Own Fan!" to "Be Your Own Family!" Close the weekend in style with a little family fun in the outfield as prior to the game there's catch in the outfield and one of the RiverDogs players will read to the crowd. Don't forget about free parking and kids eat free! Sunday's game is presented by CCPRC and WIOP 95.9 FM.
