Bears Smother Marlies to Claim Game One

Hershey Bears News Release

HERSHEY, Pa. - Carter Camper extended his point streak to seven games with a goal and an assist, leading the Hershey Bears to a 3-1 victory over the Toronto Marlies in game one of the Eastern Conference Finals on Friday night at GIANT Center.

It would be Toronto coming out with a fast start, as William Nylander collected a pass from Kasperi Kapanen and backhanded a shot past Justin Peters at 9:04.

Camper started his night by scoring the tying goal early in the second period, after an extended in-zone shift by his teammates. Tired Toronto defensemen could not clear the puck out, and Dustin Gazley worked the puck into the high slot for Camper to rip past Antoine Bibeau at 3:39.

The Bears appeared to have taken a lead late in the second period, but after video review, it was determined that Ryan Stanton's backhand shot did not cross the goal line in time.

Still, Hershey eventually took the lead when Liam O'Brien fired a shot from the right circle short-side past Bibeau at 2:51 of the third.

The Bears grabbed the insurance marker at 8:12 while working their fourth power play of the night. Zach Sill, stationed at the top of the crease, banged home the rebound of a deflection chance by Aaron Ness, putting the Bears in front 3-1.

Toronto pulled Bibeau with just over four minutes left in the third period in favor of a sixth attacker, but the Bears held on from there.

Peters improved to 8-4 with 19 saves on 20 shots. Bibeau fell to 5-3 with 20 saves on 23 shots. The Bears finished 1-for-4 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.

Game two of the Eastern Conference Finals is set for tomorrow, May 21 at 7:00 PM. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office, by calling 717-508-BEAR or online at TicketMaster.com.
