NEWARK, NJ - May 10, 2006 - The Newark Bears scored three runs in the first inning, one in the second, and two in the third to defeat the Camden Riversharks 7-5 at Campbell's Field in Camden, NJ Wednesday evening. The Bears are now an even 2-2 during this 5-game road trip and 4-5 on the season.

Dario Delgado hit a two-run single in the top of the first inning to start the scoring, and Victor Valencia's sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning broke a 4-4 tie, to give the Bears the lead for good. Delgado finished the day 2-for-5 with a double, 2 RBI, and 3 runs scored, and Doug Devore went 1-for-4 with a stolen base to extend his hitting streak to eight games. Newark native Jonathan Thomas finished the game 2-for-3 with a stolen base.

Camden's comeback would be halted by Bears reliever Travis Wade, as he pitched out of 2-on-2-out jams in both the seventh and eighth innings.

He finished the day giving up 7 hits, 5 runs, 3 earned runs, and 4 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. The Bears and Riversharks will play the final game of the two-game series Thursday evening at Campbell's Field with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm. The Bears will send David Shepard (0-1) to the mound for his third start of the season.
