Norfolk Admirals News Release
HERSHEY, Pa. - The Hershey Bears (1-0-0-0) used three Andrew Gordon power play goals to power past the Norfolk Admirals (0-1-0-0) 3-1 on Saturday night at Giant Center in the first regular season game of the Admirals' tenth American Hockey League season.
The Bears took a 2-0 lead after one period on the strength of two Gordon power play goals. The first goal came 3:12 into the game as Gordon tipped a Keith Aucoin feed from the left circle past Norfolk netminder Dustin Tokarski. Gordon then doubled the Hershey lead exactly twelve minutes later when he found the rebound of an Alexandre Giroux shot and put it past Tokarski at 15:12.
After a scoreless second period, the Admirals got on the board just 2:52 into the final frame. Paul Szczechura threaded a pass from the left corner toward the slot. Blair Jones redirected the shot past Bears netminder Braden Holtby for the Admirals' first goal of the season.
However, Gordon finished the hat trick at 9:30 when he found the rebound of a Giroux shot.
Dustin Tokarski (32 shots, 29 saves) was saddled with the loss in his professional debut. Braden Holtby (24 shots, 23 saves) earned his first professional victory.
Norfolk was 0-4 on the power play. Hershey was 3-6.
