Bears head to upstate New York tonight to take on the Crunch
October 29, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY opens up a three games in three days stretch tonight at the Onondaga County War Memorial in Syracuse. It's the first time this season the BEARS have played outside the East Division with a pair of home games looming this weekend with Rochester and Norfolk.
The BEARS are in seventh place entering play tonight, earning its first standings point last Saturday with an overtime loss against Philadelphia. Syracuse begins play this evening in fourth place in the North Division standings with a 3-2-0-0 record. It's a homecoming of sorts for a pair of HERSHEY players. Defenseman Darrel Scoville served as Syracuse's captain last season, and centerman Mathieu Darche scored 32 goals for the Crunch during the 2002-03 season.
While the power play struggled in the first two plus games of the season for HERSHEY, the BEARS have scored goals on the man advantage in two consecutive games entering play tonight. The penalty kill has been a perfect 15 for 15 heading to Syracuse tonight. The BEARS are the only team in the AHL so far that has not allowed a power play goal.
Tonight's game can be heard in central Pennsylvania on the BEARS radio network. 1460-AM carries the game for Harrisburg/Hershey, while 1390-AM will have the game in Lancaster. John Walton calls the action from Syracuse beginning at 7:10 p.m. this evening. HERSHEY will play at home Saturday against Rochester at 7:00 p.m. before hosting Norfolk at GIANT Center Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are still available for both games at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.
