Hershey Bears News Release

WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins skated to a 6-2 victory over the Hershey Bears in game six of the Atlantic Division Finals on Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. The series will now return to Chocolatetown for a decisive game seven on Sunday.

The Penguins, with their backs against the wall, would score four times in the opening period to take a 4-0 lead after one. Starting things off was Kael Mouillierat, who turned and fired a shot from a right-side sharp angle that got through Justin Peters at 10:52.

A few plays later, Barry Goers would find a puck at the right point and turn a shot toward the slot. Tom Kostopoulos got a stick on the chance, deflecting it past Peters at 15:16 for a 2-0 lead.

The Bears succumbed to more forechecking pressure just over three minutes later. Carter Rowney forced a turnover, and played a short give-and-go with Kostopoulos before depositing a shot at 18:22 for a 3-0 lead.

Tyler Lewington later had no choice but to slow up a breakaway chance, putting his team on the penalty kill. With mere seconds left in the period, Will O'Neill slammed home a rebound off of the goal post to end the scoring in the period.

Dan Ellis would replace Peters in goal to start the second period, and the move energized Hershey. At 12:51, the Bears would get one goal back on a play started by Travis Boyd. The rookie worked the puck out of the left corner, skated along the goal line and found Lewington for a slam-dunk at the back door.

But the bounces kept favoring the Penguins, as just under three minutes later, Rowney turned and sent a wrist shot that hit traffic and rolled in off of Jake Guentzel. The Penguins took a 5-1 lead at 15:39.

Early in the third, Rowney would tally his second of the game, a long-range slapper that eluded Ellis through a screen for a 6-1 Penguins lead.

As the period turned more chippy, Hershey would earn a four-on-three power play chance late in the frame. Zach Sill set up in the slot to deflect a Chris Bourque slap shot past DeSmith at 16:29, rounding out the scoring.

Peters was tagged with the loss, stopping eight of 12 shots faced in 20 minutes of work. Ellis earned no decision, making 17 saves on 19 shots over the last two periods. The Bears finished the night 1-for-6 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.

Hershey will now host game seven of the series on Sunday, with the puck drop slated for 5:00 PM. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office beginning at 12:00 Noon tomorrow, and starting at 9:00 AM online at TicketMaster.com and by phone at (717)508-BEAR.
