Beach Bums Set to Open 2017 Season

May 11, 2017 - Frontier League (FL)
Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - After a two-week training camp, a successful FANFest, and numerous scrimmages, the 2017 version of the Traverse City Beach Bums are eager to, once again, compete for the Frontier League Championship. The final difficult decisions have been made and manager Dan Rohn, and new bench coach, Joseph Brown, has set their opening day roster for the new season.

On the infield, slugger Giancarlo Brugnoni will spend a majority of the season manning first base. The double-play combination of Steven Patterson and Will Kengor, are also returning from last year's club. Another returnee, Elijah Trail, along with newcomers, Brook Clark, and Lucas Hunter will round out the infield.

Fourth year Beach Bum, Jeff DeBlieux, will be the anchor in the outfield, as he takes over the veteran slot on the roster. Tyler Peterson returns to the cherry capital after an injury-shortened 2016 campaign. New to the outfield are Ryan Garvey, who returns to the game after a two year layoff, and Alexis Rivera, who provides a power punch in a corner outfield spot.

Former Michigan Wolverine, Kendall Patrick, comes back to the Bums for his third season, and will be expected to handle the duties behind the plate. Joining him will be Nick Murphy, who comes to Traverse City for his second season as a professional.

The pitching staff will include a healthy mix of old and new faces, led by the new pitching coach Kramer Champlin. Augie Gallardo, who in the only three starts last season, was named Frontier League pitcher of the year, is also back along with James Ball, Jacob Lanning, and Michael Shreves. New to the staff are Nate Abel, Jake Ezell, John Havird, Kenneth Knudsen, Devin Over, and Tyler Painton.

The Beach Bums will get the new season rolling tomorrow night at 7:30pm (eastern) as they hit the road to take on their division rivals, the Schaumburg Boomers. After a three game series in Schaumburg, the team will stay in suburban Chicago to visit the defending division champion Joliet Slammers for another three game set.

All Beach Bums games in 2017 will once again be broadcast on 101.9 FM- The Bay with Tom Willms returning for his second season as the radio voice of the Traverse City Beach Bums. All broadcasts will also be available online at TCBeachBums.com. The Budweiser pre-game show will start things off twenty minutes before each scheduled first pitch.

Opening night is Friday, May 19th with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Come on out and help us kick off the 12th season of Beach Bums baseball and the start of a three games series versus our inter-division rivals, the Lake Erie Crushers. We'll also have our first FANtastic Fireworks Friday, with post-game fireworks presented by 4Front Credit Union.
