Beach Bums Drop Fourth in a Row

EVANSVILLE, IN - The Traverse City Beach Bums(24-37), for their second straight game, gave up a big fourth inning in falling to the Evansville Otters(36-25) by a final score of 6-1.

With two outs in the first inning, Evansville took an early 1-0 lead on a solo home run by Dane Phillips. The Otters added to their advantage with a fourth inning that brought nine men to the plate. John Schultz led off the frame with a solo home run. Later, Lance Montano hit a two-run double, Christopher Riopedre hit an RBI double, then scored on a throwing error, making it a 6-0 game.

In the seventh, the Beach Bums put together a small rally to get their first run of the series. With one out, Arby Fields reached on a fielding error then moved to second when John Montgomery walked. Two batters later, Josh Hauser slipped a single into left field, scoring Fields, pulling Traverse City within five, but that's as close as they would come.

Max Duval hurled a complete game for Evansville, allowing one unearned run on five hits and a walk while he struck out 10. He improves to 8-2. Kramer Champlin went four innings in the loss to fall to 6-4 on the year. He allowed nine hits, six runs, five of them earned, and struck out five.
