Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums(9-8) fell behind in the first inning and never recovered, losing to the Schaumburg Boomers(12-5), by a final score of 8-2.
For the second straight night, Schaumburg took an early 3-0 lead. Tonight, it started in the first when Seth Spivey singled in a run then Nick Oddo hit a two-run double. The Boomers doubled their advantage in the fourth using a two-run single by Sean Godfrey followed by a David Harris sacrifice fly. In the sixth, Godfrey and Spivey hit back-to-back RBI singles to grow the lead to eight.
The Beach Bums offense didn't get anything rolling until the bottom of the ninth inning. Arby Fields led off with a single, followed by a Steven Patterson base hit. Will Kengor reached on a fielder's choice, moving Fields to third and Patterson was thrown out at second. Alexis Rivera then grounded out to the first basemen, to drive in Fields. Two batters later, Elijah Trail hit an RBI single, but that would be as close as the Beach Bums would come.
Gunnar Kines had a fine start against the Beach Bums, striking out 10 in six innings of scoreless work to improve his record to 3-1 on the year. Traverse City's Augie Gallardo gave up six runs, three of them earned, on six hits and four walks, falling to 1-1 with tonight's loss.
Tomorrow night, it's the rubber match of this week's three game series between the Beach Bums and Boomers. Reinaldo Lopez will make his first home start for the Bums and Aryton Costa gets the nod for Schaumburg. First pitch at Wuerfel Park is at 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the call starting at 6:45pm with the Budweiser pre-game show, on 101.9- The Bay.
Come out to the ballpark tomorrow night for Thirsty Thursday, featuring $2 6oz craft beer, featuring the Short's Brewing Company, and $2 fountain drinks. The gates open at 6pm for a 7:05pm first pitch at Wuerfel Park.
