HOUSTON- The Confederation of North, Central America and the Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) announced that Houston will host a Group A doubleheader at BBVA Compass Stadium on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 as part of the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup group stage.

This marks the third consecutive edition of the tournament in which BBVA Compass Stadium will serve as a host venue for the Gold Cup. Previous editions of the tournament have been held at the stadium in 2013 and 2015.

"We are proud to host the CONCACAF Gold Cup at BBVA Compass Stadium for a third straight cycle," said president Chris Canetti. "This is an important international soccer event, and we are honored to have it back at our stadium and in our community for fans to enjoy."

The Gold Cup is the official national team championship of the region, taking place biannually. BBVA Compass Stadium hosted a doubleheader in the 2013 edition of the tournament that featured Honduras, El Salvador, Trinidad and Tobago, and Haiti.

Two years later fans witnessed back-to-back stoppage time goals in two thrilling contests as Jamaica defeated Canada and Costa Rica drew with El Salvador in downtown Houston.

To date, seven of the twelve national teams scheduled to participate have qualified for next year's tournament: Canada, Mexico and the United States from North America, as well as Curacao, French Guiana, Jamaica, and Martinique, from the Caribbean, will compete for the Confederation crown in July.

Canada, Mexico and the United States automatically qualify for the Gold Cup in representation of North America. The four Caribbean nations already qualified did so by winning their groups in the recently completed semifinal stage of the Scotiabank CFU Caribbean Cup. The top four finishers from January's UNCAF Central American Cup, to be played in Panama, will also qualify.

Three additional Caribbean nations, Haiti, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago, have qualified for an additional series of matches in January, the winner of which will face-off next year in a two-leg playoff against the fifth-place team from the UNAF Central American Cup to determine the final participant in the 2017 Gold Cup.

Taking place every two years, the CONCACAF Gold Cup is the official national team championship of the region, which includes North and Central America and the Caribbean. Drawing large crowds and millions of television viewers across the region, the Gold Cup is a celebration of soccer, sportsmanship, and culture.
