Bowie Baysox News Release

Bowie, Md. - The Baysox (55-55) broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the seventh inning to squeeze past the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (53-56) 4-3 Thursday to take the series.

First baseman Chirstian Walker helped boost the Baysox with three doubles and a run scored in the game. It was the first Baysox three double game since Joe Mahoney June 26, 2011.

"I have hit the ball hard lately, but for whatever reason it has been right at people," Walker said. "It's good for my confidence to see some balls fall, especially extra base hits. This is only my third multi-hit game so that's good to help me stay motivated."

Baysox starter Mike Wright tied a season-high, going seven innings and allowing three runs on eight hit while striking out six and not issuing a walk in the win.

The Baysox took an early lead in the bottom of the second inning against New Hampshire starter Sean Nolin. Third baseman Brandon Waring hit a solo home run to left-center field to lead off the inning and first baseman Christian Walker followed with a double. Two more singles plated Walker and catcher Brian Ward then walked to load the bases. With one out, a single by center field Kyle Hudson deflected off the pitcher, allowing another run to score and giving the Baysox a 3-0 lead.

New Hampshire came back to tie the game 3-3 in the top of the third inning against Wright. With one out, Jack Murphy hit a solo homer, Kenny Wilson singled and Andy Burns then homered to tie the game.

Bowie retook the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning against New Hampshire reliever Ryan Tepera. Hudson drew a lead off walk and scored from first on a double down the right field line by shortstop Niuman Romero on a perfectly executed hit and run to make the score 4-3.

"Romero likes the hit and run and he is capable of hitting the ball on the ground so I thought it would be a good option," said Manager Gary Kendall. "If [Hudson] steals the base then Romero still has a pitch to get him over so I just gambled and we happened to keep that ball inside the line. Hudson is such a good instinctive base runner - he cuts the bag and just glides. It was a great run."

Reliever Zech Zinicola closed out the game for the Baysox, pitching two scoreless innings and allowing three hits while striking out one in his 12th save of the season.

Tepera took the loss for New Hampshire, pitching one and one-third innings and allowing one run on two hits while striking out one and walking two.

RHP Devin Jones (3-4, 5.82) takes the mound for the Baysox tomorrow as the team begins a three game home series with the Portland Sea Dogs.

The Baysox are home through Sunday, Aug. 4 for a six game home stand. Highlights include the Family Campout Friday, Aug. 2 beginning at 7:05 p.m and Superhero night Saturday, Aug. 3 beginning at 6:35 p.m.
