Baysox End Season With Loss To Connecticut, 5-2

(Bowie, MD) - The Baysox wrapped up their season today dropping the final game of their 2007 season to Connecticut, 5-2. Despite the loss the Baysox finished the season above .500 at (72-68). The Baysox finished a .514 winning percentage, tied for fourth highest in Baysox history (1993, 2004).

The Baysox jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, when

Luis Hernandez swiped home on a double steal attempt. Connecticut catcher Dayton Buller was charged with an error on the play, trying to throw Nolan Reimold out at second. Reimold then advanced to third on the overthrow, as the Baysox went ahead, 1-0.

Baysox pitcher Carlos Perez, who replaced Jaret Wright following the first inning, got into a bit of trouble in the fourth inning. John Bowker hit a one out bases loaded double to center, scoring Buller and Carlos Sosa, giving the Defenders a 2-1 lead. Randy Ruiz would then hit an RBI groundout, making it, 3-1 Defenders. Tyler Von Schell would follow Ruiz with an RBI single scoring Bowker, putting Connecticut ahead, 4-1.

Rommie Lewis would then spell Perez from the game and get the final out of the inning when Luis Montanez threw Von Schell out at home on a Julio Cordido single.

The Defenders put up another run in the top of the sixth when Lewis issued a bases loaded walk to Randy Ruiz, scoring Jake Wald, putting Connecticut ahead, 5-1.

Nolan Reimold scored the only other Baysox run on the day, coming across to score from third on a wild pitch, to put the Baysox to within three at, 5-2. Rudy Yan would ground out though for the final out of the game, sealing the Baysox fate with their third straight loss to end the season.

Carlos Perez took the loss for the Baysox, dropping to (0-2) on the season, going 3.2 innings, giving up eight hits and four runs. Geno Espineli picked up the win for the Defenders, improving to (8-10) on the season, going 7.0 innings, giving up seven hits and one run.

The Baysox would like to thank the fans for making this season one of the best ever in Baysox history as we set our sights on our 2008 home opener on April 3rd.
