Erie, PA - A game after going 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position the Bowie Baysox (32-36) offense broke out with 11 hits in an 8-1 win over the Erie SeaWolves on Tuesday night.
Robbie Widlansky went 1-for-3 in the game to extend his hitting streak to 12 and Antoan Richardson added two hits to run his hitting streak to nine.
Brandon Waring gave the Baysox the early lead when he hit a two-run home run in the second inning, his eighth of the season to make the score 2-0.
The Baysox added two more runs in the third inning. With one out, Richardson singled and Jonathan Schoop doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Rhyne Hughes then reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Richardson to score the first run of the inning. Widlansky followed with a double to left that knocked in Schoop and made the score 4-0.
The SeaWolves got on the board in the bottom of the third. Michael Rockett led off with a single. Jamie Johnson then singled to center and a throwing error by Richardson allowed both runners to get into scoring position. Niumen Romero followed with a groundout to short that scored Rockett and cut the lead to 4-1.
In the fifth inning, the Baysox scored four more runs to break the game open. Schoop, Hughes and Widlansky all reached to load up the bases with one out. Manny Machado followed with a groundout to third that scored Schoop. Brandon Waring then knocked in two runs with a double to left and Josh Barfield hit a single to center that made the score 8-1.
Zach Clark picked up the win throwing seven innings and allowing just one run on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Jared Wesson got the loss going 4.1 innings and allowing seven runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Tomorrow in game two, LHP Jake Pettit (4-0, 3.38) will get the start against LHP Kelvin De La Cruz (4-6, 3.45).
The Baysox are on the road for three games and will return home on Friday June 22 for a five-game series against the Reading Phillies. The series will include fireworks, the Cowboy Monkey Rodeo and a doubleheader on Saturday night.
