BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Brampton Battalion has traded rookie defenceman Miles Cope to the Owen Sound Attack, the Ontario Hockey League club announced Tuesday. The Battalion received a sixth-round pick in the 2008 OHL Priority Selection.

Cope, a 17-year-old Mississauga resident, made the Battalion on the final day of training camp but had yet to see regular-season action.

"We were in a situation where we had eight defencemen and we were finding it hard to get ice time for all of them," said Stan Butler, Battalion director of hockey operations and head coach.

"We haven't had a chance to get everyone into a game, and as a result we had to make a roster move. There was an opportunity for him in Owen Sound, and we felt we owed him a chance to take advantage of that."

A left shot, the six-foot-three, 219-pound Cope was chosen in the seventh round of the 2004 OHL Priority Selection from the Toronto Red Wings minor midgets. He played last season with the Streetsville Derbys of the Provincial Junior A League.

The Battalion has 25 players on its roster, comprising 16 forwards, seven defencemen and two goaltenders. The forwards include left winger Wojtek Wolski, a 19-year-old playing with the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League.
