Louisville Bats News Release
Louisville, KY- The Louisville Bats (7-10) ended their home stand with a win over the Durham Bulls (11-6) 4-3 in 13 innings. This helped the Bats avoid a three-game sweep by the Bulls at Louisville Slugger Field.
Right-handed pitcher Asher Wojciechowski had a solid Bats debut on Sunday. Wojiciechowski pitched four innings, gave up two hits, six strikeouts, and gave up one run. Wojciechowski's only run allowed was in the second inning off an error, giving the Bulls a 1-0 lead.
The Durham Bulls started right-handed pitcher Jeff Ames (3-0, 2.89), who pitched three innings, allowing no runs and no hits on 31 total pitches.
The Bats manufactured two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Dilson Herrera hit his second home run of the year, tying Phillip Ervin for a team-high 11th RBI of the season. This home run put the Bats up 2-1 after six.
Bats pitcher Louis Coleman pitched out of a bases loaded jam with no outs in the top half of the eighth inning. The Bulls managed to only score one run off three hits, tying the game up at 2-2.
The Bulls plated a run in the top of the 12th inning after a few base hits by Granden Goetzman Cade Gotta, and Willy Adames. It was Adames' hit that scored Goetzman from third giving the Bulls a 3-2 lead.
The Bats came right back in the bottom of the 12th and tied it up with a single by Jesse Winker that scored Rob Brantly, who doubled right before Winker's single.
The Bats won on a walk off wild pitch by Michael McKenry, scoring Beau Amaral from third base, giving the Bats a 4-3 victory over the Bulls.
The Bats and Bulls are both off Monday. The Bats will be back in action on Tuesday against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm ET. Bats plan on starting right-handed pitcher Jackson Stephens (1-0, 10.13) and the RailRiders plan on starting left-handed pitcher Caleb Smith (0-0, 1.93).
