Louisville Bats News Release

NORFOLK, Va- The Louisville Bats were able to come up with a big road win with right handed pitcher Robert Stephenson (1-1, 0.72) on the mound. The Bats were in a scoreless battle until their at-bat in the fifth inning, when they were able to open up a lead and maintain it throughout.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Bats took the lead and did not look back. Second baseman Carlos Triunfel singled to start the inning. Right fielder Kyle Waldrop doubled to left field, putting Triunfel on third base. A groundout by catcher Chris Berset brought home Triunfel. Center fielder Bryson Smith was hit by a pitch, shortstop Juan Perez walked and third baseman Jermaine Curtis' RBI single made it 2-0. Steve Selsky plated two more with a bases loaded single. Curtis scored the fifth run of the inning on a wild pitch.

The sixth inning proved to be productive for the Bats as well. A single by left fielder Hernan Iribarren and a single by Triunfel led to a deep 3-run home run off of the bat of Waldrop, who has accounted for the only two home runs the Bats have hit this season.

The Bats would tack on one more insurance run in the top of the ninth inning. A pair of singles from Curtis and Allen allowed for an RBI single from Iribarren.

Stephenson threw a strong six innings and only allowed three hits, issuing three walks and striking out two. He finished his night throwing 91 pitches, with 54 for strikes. He, along with the help of two relievers, were able to limit the Tides to just five hits. Despaigne (0-3, 6.28) took the loss for the Tides.

The Bats totaled 11 hits after producing just one yesterday. Triunfel, who went four-for-five, Waldrop, who went two-for-four with the three-run home run, and Selsky, who went two-for-five and drove in a pair of runs, powered the offense tonight. Curtis brought his team leading batting average to .441 after a three-for-four night.

Tomorrow night, the Bats look to win the series against the Tides at 6:35 PM. RHP Tim Adleman (1-0, 7.20) will go for Louisville (7-8) and LHP Nick Additon (1-1, 2.65) will get the start for Norfolk (6-11).
