Bats Silenced by Cougars in Finale

Burlington, IA- The Burlington Bees (64-66) couldn't finish off the sweep of the Kane County Cougars (58-72), losing 2-1 on Wednesday night at Community Field.

Bees' starter Jaime Barria was in danger for the majority of his start on Thursday night, allowing two straight hits to start the game. Barria was able to work out of trouble, getting the next three batters in order.

Barria was able to strand seven base runners, throwing five shutout innings. Kane County opened the scoring in the top of the sixth inning. Ramon Hernandez doubled to lead off the inning and then moved to third on a one out single by BJ Lopez. Sergio Alcantara gave the cougars the lead by grounding a single into right.

Kane County added a big insurance run in the ninth. Alcantara singled to start the ninth inning. Raymel Flores moved Alcantara to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Fernery Ozuna singled to right, scoring Alcantara, pushing the Cougars' lead to 2-0.

The Bees got their lone run of the game in the ninth. With two outs, Jordan Serena homered to left, his second of the season, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Austin Mason (3) was able to get Lund to fly out to center to end the game, earning the save.

Emilio Vargas (5-6) earned the win for Kane County, throwing five scoreless innings. Blake Smith (3-1) was charged with the loss. The Bees hit the road, starting a three game series at Peoria on Friday night at 6:30. Jesus Castillo takes the ball for the Bees against Ryan Helsley for Peoria.
