Bats Hold on for 3-2 Win over Toledo

Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (63-71) had to reclaim the lead twice on Friday night as they held on to defeat the Toledo Mud Hens (56-76) 3-2. Louisville now holds a 2-0 series lead in the four-game set at Louisville Slugger Field.
Felix Perez knocked in his team-leading 64th RBI of the season in the first to give the Bats the first lead of the night, scoring Derrick Robinson on a two-out single. The Bats are now 50-20 when scoring first this season.
Bats catcher Yovan Gonzalez's first career Triple-A hit was the difference in the ballgame, as his seventh-inning single drove in Mike Hessman to give Louisville their decisive 3-2 lead.
Yohan Pino (W, 5-7) turned in a quality start for the Bats to bounce back from a rough start on August 17 in which he lasted only 4.2 innings and allowed five earned runs. Pino went seven innings Friday, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out seven.
A Louisville error would prove to be costly in the third. With two outs in the inning, a Neftali Soto error on a ground ball by Danny Worth allowed Argenis Diaz to score for Toledo and even the score, 1-1.
The Hens committed a two-out error of their own in the fourth that allowed Henry Rodriguez to advance to second base on a single to center field. Like the Bats' third inning error, Ben Guez's mistake would help get a Louisville run across. In the next at-bat, Mike Hessman flared a single to shallow center field that plated Rodriguez and regained a one-run Bats lead. Rodriguez recorded multiple hits for the 13th time over his last 29 games.
Former Bat Danny Dorn led off the sixth inning with his 20th double of the season to set the table for Toledo to equalize once again. After a groundout moved him to third, Dorn slid just outside of Gonzalez's reach at home plate on Jordan Lennerton's sacrifice fly. The game was tied 2-2 heading to the seventh.
Toledo starter Jon Link (ND, 0-4) gave way to the bullpen after six innings on the mound. He struck out two in six innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and a walk.
Evan Reed (L, 1-3) was responsible for the third Bats run that came in the seventh. He went two innings in relief of Link.
Jose Diaz registered his tenth save of the season after working a perfect ninth inning.
Saturday evening, the Bats will send RHP Chad Rogers (4-5, 4.79) to the mound against Mud Hens RHP Shawn Hill (4-14, 5.70). First pitch for the third of four games between Louisville and Toledo is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. The game will feature an appearance by Christopher and his Dancing Puppets.
