Bats Begin Road Trip with Win, 5-3

MOOSIC, Pa.- The Louisville Bats won the first game of a six-day road trip on Tuesday night against the Scranton Wlkes-Barre RailRiders at PNC Field, 5-3.

The Bats started out strong with a home run three pitches into the game by second baseman Juan Perez, the first leadoff homer of the season for Louisville.

Louisville didn't stop there as Raffy Lopez doubled home a pair of runs in the second, giving the Bats an early 3-0 lead.

The RailRiders answered back in the fifth on a two-run homer by Cesar Puello making the score 3-2.

Earning the win was Bats starter, lefty Cody Reed (3-2, 2.21), tallying up seven strikeouts in six innings while giving up seven hits, two runs and one walk.

Louisville added an insurance run in both the seventh and eighth innings on RBI singles to take a 5-2 lead into the ninth inning and they needed them. Jake Cave opened the inning with a triple and a sac fly scored him, making the final score 5-3.

The starting pitcher for the RailRiders, right-hander Brady Lail (2-1, 3.32) collected four strikeouts but took the loss after he gave up eight hits, three runs, one home run and one hit batter in six innings.

The Bats and RailRiders continue the series tomorrow at 10:35 a.m. when Reds right-hander Anthony DeScalafani (0-0, 3.00) makes a rehab start against lefty Phil Coke (2-0, 0.00) who is expected to go for Scranton Wilkes-Barre.
