Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A go-ahead, two-run homer by Nick Basto in the 10th inning propelled Winston-Salem to a 7-5 victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats on Saturday night at Calvin Falwell Field.

With a runner on first and one out in the 10th, Basto crushed a two-run blast to left against Hillcats righty Jared Robinson (1-4). The 22-year-old, who was 0-for-4 prior to that at-bat, is now tied for the team lead with 12 home runs.

As a result, Winston-Salem (24-25, 52-67) has tied a season-high with five straight wins and secured its first road series win since April 29-May 1, when the Dash took two out of three against Frederick at NYMEO Field.

The Dash pitching staff also halted Lynchburg catcher Francisco Mejia's 49-game hitting streak on Saturday. The 20-year-old catcher went 0-for-4 with a walk, ending the longest hitting streak in Minor League Baseball in 62 years.

For the second straight game against Lynchburg (28-21, 73-46), the Dash scored first. Landon Lassiter led off the contest with a triple against Hillcats starter Thomas Pannone, and Gerson Montilla followed with an RBI double to give Winston-Salem a 1-0 edge. After Mason Robbins singled to put runners on the corners, Basto grounded into a double play that plated the Dash's second run.

The Hillcats responded in the bottom of the frame. A two-out, two-run single by Dorssys Paulino against Dash starter Tanner Banks tied the contest at two. The Hillcats took their first edge of the series in the fifth on an RBI double by Tyler Krieger.

While allowing three runs, Banks spun his third quality start in his last four outings by going six innings.

Down 3-2 in the seventh inning, the Dash went back ahead. Telvin Nash led off the inning with a double off the wall, and, two batters later, Brett Austin tied the game with an RBI triple, his first three-bagger of the season.

After a Ryan Leonards walk, Cleuluis Rondon put Winston-Salem on top with an RBI single to make it 4-3. The Dash added an insurance run in the eighth on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Marcus Davis.

Drew Hasler provided two innings of solid middle relief, with his one blemish being a Bobby Bradley solo homer.

The Hillcats did tie the contest in the ninth against Dash reliever Jacob Morris (2-3). With runners on first and third and two outs, Bobby Bradley stroked an RBI bloop single to center to make it a 5-5 game. However, after Winston-Salem regained the lead, Morris struck out the side in the 10th to lock down the win.

Robbins registered his team-leading 41st multi-hit contest with a 3-for-5 performance. The 23-year-old upped his Carolina League-leading batting average to .320.

The Dash go for the series sweep against the Hillcats at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Winston-Salem sends right-hander Zach Thompson (2-3, 6.97 ERA) to the slab against Lynchburg righty Matt Esparza (0-2, 2.45 ERA). The Pregame Dash begins at 3:45 p.m., and fans can tune in at wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn Radio App.
