Trenton Thunder News Release
The Trenton Thunder and Reading Fightin Phils combined for 41 baserunners- 28 hits, 10 walks, two hit-by-pitches and a reach-on-error- as the Thunder came away with 21 baserunners and an 8-4 win Sunday evening.
Before 5,686 fans at First Energy Stadium, your Thunder opened up a 4-0 lead in support of starting pitcher Yefry Ramirez with a pair of runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings. After Reading responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 3rd, Trenton plated a run in the top of the 4th.
Both the 3rd and 4th innings began with a leadoff home run. Rashad Crawford drilled his second of the year over the wall in right center to begin the 3rd before Billy Fleming crushed his homer over the 400-foot mark in dead-centerfield in the 4th. The Thunder added three runs in the 5th inning for an 8-2 lead which they used to coast to victory.
The offense was paced by a three-hit night from Dante Bichette Jr. (3-for-4, R, RBI, BB) and multi-hit nights from Vince Conde (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Billy Fleming (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Billy McKinney (2-for-4, 2 RBI, HBP).
The ballgame took 3:26 which was the longest 9-inning game played by the Thunder this season, surpassing May 27th in Portland which took 3:05. Despite the victory, Sunday's game also marked the most hits allowed in a game by your Thunder this season with 16, surpassing the 15 hits allowed Tuesday night in Altoona.
With the win over Reading, coupled with a loss by the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, your Thunder once again open up a 4.5-game lead over the Fightin Phils for first place in the East Division and they hold a 7.0-game lead over the B-Pones for the second playoff spot.
