HIDALGO, Texas ---- The Rio Grande Valley Barracudas have signed Brazilian defender Luiz Mota and Argentinian forward Fernando Gatica for the 2017-2018 season. As per team and league policy terms of both contracts are disclosed.

Luiz Mota is native out of Sao Paulo, Brazil and spent last season with the Syracuse Silver Knights and St. Louis Ambush. He participated in nine games alongside with current team-mates Antonio Manfut and Moises Gonzalez.

Fernando Gatica is from San Luis, Argentina and spent last season with the Harrisburg Heat where he scored nine goals and three assists in 20 games including post-season. Gatica brings a wealth of experience to the Rio Grande Valley having also played for the Detroit Waza Flo.

In the four seasons that Gatica played for Detroit he amassed 13 goals and assists in 23 games where he was a member of the team that won the US Open Cup in 2013, two division and conference titles.

Both Mota and Gatica are pending visa approval for the upcoming season.

The RGV Barracudas season opener is on the road October 28th against El Paso. The home opener is November 4th as the Barracudas host the Florida Tropics with the kick off at 7:05 PM.
