Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Birmingham Barons and The Alabama Booksmith are excited to announce that eight-time MLB All-Star and Atlanta Braves legend Chipper Jones will host a VIP Meet and Greet and book signing in the Diamond's Direct Ballroom at Regions Field on Tuesday, April 11th. The festivities will kick off the opening homestand for the Barons, which begins the next night against the Montgomery Biscuits and runs through Sunday, April 16th.

Jones will speak at Regions Field at 5:00 p.m., and then sign copies of his new biography, Ballplayer. Tickets to this special event are $34 and include a signed first edition of the book, along with a ticket to a future Barons game. For those wishing to just hear Chipper Jones speak, $7 tickets are available, which includes a ticket to a future Barons game, but does not include an autographed copy of the book, or a chance to meet Jones.

"We're thrilled to partner with 'The Minor League Team of the Year', our own Birmingham Barons, in hosting this area's most popular major league ballplayer ever - the great Chipper Jones," Jake Reiss, founder of The Alabama Booksmith, said. "His biography reads just like he played - hard-hitting, straight, and covers all the bases!"

Prior to the talk and book signing, there will be a VIP Meet and Greet at 4:30 p.m. in the Schaeffer Eye Center Club Lounge. Space is limited to 150 and these ticket holders will also receive a signed first edition of the book, a ticket to a future Barons game, and food and beverage. VIP tickets are $100 and proceeds benefit The Literacy Council. The Literacy Council is changing lives by helping the 92,000 functionally illiterate adults currently living in Central Alabama.

Jones is the only switch-hitter in major league history to post a .300 career batting average and hit 300 home runs. He was named the National League MVP in 1999, finished in the top ten in MVP voting six times, and was the 2008 National League batting champion, with a .364 average. He was the number one overall pick in the 1990 draft, and spent his entire career with the Atlanta Braves. In 2013, Jones was inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame and had his number 10 retired. The two-time Silver Slugger will be eligible for induction to the National Baseball Hall of Fame beginning in 2018.

VIP tickets can be purchased here, regular general admission tickets can be purchased here, and under 18 tickets can be purchased here. For more information, visit http://www.alabamabooksmith.com/.
