Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Prior to this week's trip to face the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the Birmingham Barons are proud to announce that infielder Nicky Delmonico has been promoted to the AAA Charlotte Knights for the first time in his career. In a corresponding move, the Barons will receive White Sox no. 4 prospect Adam Engel from the Class A Winston-Salem Dash.

Delmonico, 23, leads the Southern League with a .338 batting average and ten home runs following a 2-for-4 night with two homers and three RBIs against the Montgomery Biscuits. Through 38 games this season with Birmingham, the Tennessee native also leads the SL with a .676 slugging percentage, 26 extra-base hits, and 96 total bases.

Despite missing the first seven games of the season the Barons slugger also ranks among the league leaders with 31 RBIs, 48 hits, and 14 doubles.

Engel, 24, rejoins the Barons after starting the season with Birmingham. He was assigned to the Dash May 9, and has posted a .327 batting average in 14 games with Winston-Salem this season. As a member of the Barons, the Loveland, Ohio native recorded a .314 on-base percentage and 12 stolen bases. He remains second in the Southern League with four triples despite missing nearly a month of AA action.

Relief pitcher Tyler Barnette was also activated by the Knights, after being assigned to the Barons roster but not being activated by Birmingham this past series. In four games with the Barons this year, Barnette recorded seven strikeouts and registered a 2.84 ERA.
