Barons Silence the Smokies' Bats

Tennessee Smokies News Release

Sevierville, TN - The Tennessee Smokies finished their final game of their opening ten-game homestand, as the Barons were able to cool off the Smokies' hot bats and take the final game of the series.

Preston Morrison got the ball for Tennessee and started off strong, retiring the first seven batters he faced. Brett Austin would get the Barons' first hit in the top of the third and would later score on a Jake Peter single to right. Morrison would give up three more in the fourth before being pulled in the fifth. He finished the night working five innings of four run baseball.

The Smokies' offense was hard to come by, only collecting one run off Birmingham's starter Thaddius Lowry. Lowry went 5.2 innings giving up his only run on a David Bote RBI single.

After Lowry was pulled, the Barons' bullpen picked up where he left off, as Will Lamb and Miguel Chalas would go until the ninth before giving up a hit. Two singles from Andrew Ely and Carlos Penalver would drive in a run apiece to trim the lead to one. That would be all the Smokies could get back, as El'Hajj Muhammad would get the final out with the bases loaded to secure the 4-3 win.

The Smokies hit the road and will travel to Chattanooga to face the Lookouts for their upcoming five-game series. Game one will feature Tennessee's Duane Underwood Jr., as he looks to pick up his first win of the season. Kohl Stewart is expected to oppose him, as he looks to get one in the win column after three rough starts to the season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
