York Revolution News Release

York, Pa. - In a game that featured an hour and 45 minute rain delay before the first pitch, the Lancaster Barnstormers waited out the weather and the early deficit for a 9-5 win over the York Revolution on Saturday night at PeoplesBank Park. The Barnstormers (9-14, 43-49) are now 8-5 on the season against the Revs (11-11, 51-41) in the War of the Roses presented by PNC Bank.

Tied 5-5 in the top of the eighth, Trayvon Robinson reached on a groundball to shortstop that Josh Wilson bobbled. Charlie Cutler bunted the speedy Robinson to second, and Robinson then stole third with Caleb Gindl at the plate. After Scott Rice managed a key strikeout of Gindl, Ricardo Gomez came on to face Jeff Kobernus. On an 0-1 pitch, Kobernus banged a double halfway up the Arch Nemesis, easily scoring Robinson to give the Barnstormers a 6-5 lead.

Lancaster would pull away in the top of the ninth as Sean Halton belted a two-run home run over the Nemesis, his second round-tripper of the game. Cutler added an insurance run with an RBI single to give the game its final margin.

Evan Meek (1-0) won his first game with the Barnstormers despite surrendering the lead in the seventh inning. Scott Rice (4-1) picked up a hard-luck loss after giving up the unearned run in the eighth.

Joel Guzman was itching to go after the long rain delay, cranking a solo home run over the Arch Nemesis to give the Revs a 1-0 lead in the first inning. York added another in the second as Brandon Chaves reached on an infield single, went to second on a Wilson double, and came home as Travis Witherspoon beat out his own infield hit with two outs.

Lancaster responded with a Hobson sac fly in the third and then added a four-spot in the fourth. Halton hit his first home run, a solo shot to tie the game, then Kevin Ahrens followed with a double. Robinson managed an infield single, and Cutler reached on a fielder's choice that produced no outs, loading the bases. Gindl lined a single to plate a pair of runs, then two batters later Hobson's second sac fly made it 5-2 Barnstormers.

York clawed its way back in the fifth inning as Salvador Paniagua and Witherspoon drew leadoff walks and came home on the same play, an R.J. Hively wild pitch that catcher Cutler scrambled to and overthrew past home plate. With two on and two out in the bottom of the seventh, Kevin Rivers punched a single into right center to bring home Witherspoon, on again after a walk, to tie it at 5-5.

Halton tied Southern Maryland's Michael Snyder for the league home run lead with his 15th and 16th homers of the season, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Kobernus and Cutler each had three hits and Robinson scored three times.

Guzman led the way for York with a home run, double, and league-leading 63rd RBI. Andres Perez went 2-for-4.

Neither starter factored into the decision. York's Micah Owings allowed five runs on 11 hits in five innings, while Lancaster's Anthony Fernandez only lasted four innings, surrendering two runs on six hits.

Notes: The Revs will try to salvage a split on Sunday afternoon, the final War of the Roses presented by PNC Bank home contest this season, sending Frank Gailey (4-2, 3.13) to face Joey Maher, who will be making his Barnstormers debut.
