Iowa Barnstormers News Release

DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers (4-7) fell to rival Cedar Rapids Titans (9-4), 46-33 on the road Saturday night at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

The first of three Iowa Bowl matchups started fast when after a good opening kick return, the Cedar Rapids Titans found the end zone through the air to take the lead, 7-0. The Barnstormers quickly fired back when quarterback Brion Carnes found receiver Brady Roland from 35 yards for the score, a missed PAT made it 7-6. The Barnstormers took the lead when kicker Jimmy Allen nailed a 19 yard field goal, 9-7. The Titans answered on the ground as receiver Dawan Scott scampered into the end zone from 15 yards out, 14-9.

A costly penalty by the Barnstormers gave possession back to the Titans to start the second quarter. The Titans were able to capitalize on good field position when quarterback Dylan Favre found his way into the end zone from two yards out, 21-9. The following Barnstormers possession ended when Titans' linebacker Nikolas Sierra intercepted a Carnes pass and took it in for the touchdown, 27-9. After a missed field goal by the Barnstormers, Titans' kicker Nicholas Belcher hit a 49 yard field goal, extending the lead 30-9. Barnstormers defensive back James Caine provided a spark toward the end of the second quarter with an interception. The Titans ended the half with two more field goals taking the lead into halftime, 36-9.

The Barnstormers' top ranked offense sprang to life in the second half starting with quarterback Donovan Porterie finding receiver Lucas Hefty on a 38 yard touchdown pass, 36-15. The Titans followed up the Barnstormers touchdown by adding their fourth field goal of the game, 39-15. The top ranked Titans defense forced the fifth turnover of the night for the Barnstormers and found the end zone, 46-15. Carnes re-took the offense after an awkward fall forced Porterie out of the game. Soon after entering the game, Carnes found Roland in the end zone as the Barnstormers inched closer, 46-21.

The fourth quarter began with the Barnstormers defense stopping the Titans offense to regain possession of the ball. On a strange series of plays, the Barnstormers posted 12 points in less than 30 seconds. First Carnes found receiver Bryan Pray on a 16 yard touchdown pass, 46-27. After the Barnstormers recovered a Titans fumble on the subsequent kickoff, Carnes found Pray once again, 46-33. The pace of the game came to a halt and a late Barnstormers turnover sealed their fate, falling to the Titans 46-33.

Next week the Barnstormers begin a short two game home stand starting with the Sioux Falls Storm (11-1) who won their seventh straight game over the weekend. After the Storm, the Barnstormers play host to the Cedar Rapids Titans in the second of three matchups this season. Tickets for all Barnstormers home games are available for as low as $12 per seat.
