Barberpoles Back in Win Column
January 29, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
The Ottawa 67's returned to the win column Friday night with a hard-fought 3-2 victory against division rivals Peterborough. In front of over 3,000 fans, the Barberpoles put in a full team effort getting goals from 3 different players, blocked shots and big saves from goaltender Leo Lazarev. The win sees the 67's pull ahead of the Petes for 2nd place in the East Division.
In the opening frame, the 67's speed created scoring chances, but Petes goaltender Matthew Mancina proved unbeatable. At the end of the first period, both goalies stood tall stopping all 15 shots they faced.
The Barberpoles solved Mancina inside the opening five minutes of the second period. Jeremiah Addison notched his career high 20th goal of the season off a rebound from Nevin Guy's shot. Lazarev stood tall during the Petes two-man advantage and had help from his teammates throughout the period keeping the Petes off the board. In the final minute of the period, Ben Fanjoy buried a lose puck in front of the Peterborough net scoring his 14th goal of the season. The 67's carried a 2-0 lead into the locker room after 40 minutes.
After being perfect for the first 40 minutes, the Petes finally found a way past Lazarev getting on the board less than five minutes into the final frame. Before the third period was half over, the Petes scored again tying the game 2-2.
Minutes later, Ottawa regained the lead on a delayed penalty. Tyanulin's cross-ice pass found an open Hofenmayer who scored his 2nd goal of the season. The 67's shutdown the Petes in the final seven minutes improving their record to 5-1-0-1 in their last seven games at the Arena at TD Place.
Coach and GM Jeff Brown was impressed by his team's play tonight. "There was a lot of good stuff that happened tonight. We had tremendous individual efforts, we blocked shots and Leo Lazarev was there when we needed him to be."
Dante Salituro picked up an assist on the opening goal for his 60^th point on the season. Salituro is among the Top-10 point-getters in the OHL.
Austen Keating left the game in the third period after getting hit and did not return.
The 67's six-game home stand concludes Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. against the Owen Sound Attack.
